A basic 4-camera hardwired CCTV system (including cameras, NVR recorder, and installation) typically costs $1,200–$2,500. An 8-camera system for a larger home or business runs $2,000–$4,500. Pricing depends on the number of cameras, cable run lengths, and storage requirements. We provide a free site inspection and quote. Wireless systems (which we generally don't recommend for primary security) cost less upfront but have ongoing reliability issues.
For reliable, always-on security — yes, significantly. Hardwired cameras use Power over Ethernet (PoE), meaning one cable carries both power and video with no WiFi dropouts, no batteries to replace, and no signal interference. Wireless cameras are convenient for renters or temporary setups, but for permanent home or business security on the Peninsula, hardwired is the professional choice. We always recommend hardwired for properties that will be unattended (holiday homes, businesses).
For a typical 3–4 bedroom home, 4 cameras covers the main entry, back door, driveway, and garage. A larger property or one on an acreage block in Red Hill, Flinders, or similar may need 6–8. For holiday homes left unattended, we recommend at least 4 cameras covering all entry points with remote monitoring. We'll walk your property and recommend the minimum effective number — we won't oversell cameras you don't need.
