The Esplanade, South Beach, the beach boxes and the streets that drop toward Balcombe Creek take the weather straight off the water. Inland, around the village shops, Hearn Road, Craigie Road and Dominion Road, the blocks are larger family homes. Many are 1970s and 1980s brick that have been extended. Others are rebuilds with a pool and a garage cut into the slope. Toward The Briars and the Moorooduc side the blocks are greener and a step further from the spray, and the original houses still turn up the same crowded boards.
