Safety switches (RCDs) cut power in 30 milliseconds — fast enough to save a life. We install them across the Mornington Peninsula for homes, rentals, and businesses.
📞 0418 383 232A safety switch is the single most important piece of electrical safety equipment in your home. On the Mornington Peninsula, a large number of older properties — particularly in Frankston, Mornington, Rosebud and Rye — still don't have safety switches on all circuits. That's a serious risk that's easy and relatively inexpensive to fix.
✅ How to test your safety switch:
• Find the safety switch in your switchboard (labelled RCD or Test)
• Press the test button — power to that circuit should cut out immediately
• If it doesn't trip, or won't reset, call us — it needs replacing
• Test every 6 months as recommended by Energy Safe Victoria
Yes. New homes and major renovations in Victoria must have safety switches on all power and lighting circuits. Rental properties must have safety switches installed on all circuits — this is a legal requirement for Victorian landlords. Older owner-occupied homes aren't legally required to retrofit, but it's strongly recommended.
A circuit breaker protects your wiring and appliances from overloading. A safety switch (RCD) protects people from electrocution — it detects when current is leaking (through a person, for example) and cuts power in 30 milliseconds. You need both. Many older switchboards have circuit breakers but no safety switches.
A single safety switch added to an existing switchboard typically costs $150–$300. If your switchboard needs upgrading to accommodate safety switches, the full upgrade is $800–$2,000+ depending on size. We provide free quotes and honest advice on what your property actually needs.
