Switchboard Upgrades in Karingal from Impulse Electrical Contractors, based nearby in Dromana and servicing the wider Mornington Peninsula. Around Karingal Hub, the local schools and the established residential streets around them, 1970s and 80s family homes, renovated properties, infill developments and small businesses need electrical work that is safe, tidy and suited to local conditions.
Call 0418 383 232Karingal switchboards are usually the original board in a 1970s or 80s family home. Many of those houses still have ceramic fuses or an early circuit breaker panel, with no safety switches and no spare way. A kitchen or bathroom renovation is the other job: new circuits land on a board that was never sized for them. A small shop near Karingal Hub is a tenancy board, not the house next door. Impulse Electrical Contractors upgrades them from our Dromana base.
If your lights flicker, breakers trip or the board still has ceramic fuses, it is time to upgrade before adding more electrical load. We replace old fuse boxes with modern circuit breakers, safety switches and labelled circuits, then test the installation and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety. This is especially important before installing EV chargers, air conditioning, induction cooking, workshop outlets or major renovations. In Karingal, older homes and renovated properties often reach the limit of the original board quickly, so we check capacity, earthing and meter panel condition before recommending the right upgrade. Impulse Electrical is fully licensed — A Grade A53308 and REC 25266 — with $25M public liability and a Certificate of Electrical Safety supplied on every job.
We open the board, the meter panel and the earthing before naming the work. A 1970s house is not assumed to match an infill build or a shop tenancy. You leave with labelled breakers, tested safety switches and a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES). Call 0418 383 232.
On an older family home the job is usually the whole enclosure. The fuse board or the early breaker panel comes out, safety switches go on power and lighting, and the new board has room for the circuits the house now needs. On a renovation we look at the kitchen, the bathroom and any induction cooktop or split system the builder is adding. We do not add another breaker to a board that has no spare way, and we do not leave the old board because the plaster is new.
The Karingal page already says switchboard upgrades are regular work because older homes often still carry ceramic fuse boards or early breaker panels. That is the house on a densely settled street whose board was never built for a new kitchen. An infill house nearby may already have a newer enclosure. We open the one in front of us. A shop tenancy at Karingal Hub is checked as that tenancy's board, not as the house over the fence.

Many do, or they have an early circuit breaker panel with no safety switches. The suburb page names both. We confirm what is on the wall rather than assuming every house in these streets has already been upgraded.
Only if it has spare ways, safety switches and enough capacity for the new circuits. A kitchen rewire, a bathroom and an induction cooktop often will not fit. We look before the walls are closed, and we say when the board is part of the renovation.
Often, yes. A newer house on an old block can have a modern enclosure while the neighbour still has fuses. We do not copy the neighbour's board onto yours. We open the one that feeds the house.
Power is off while the old board is disconnected and the new one is terminated and tested, usually for part of one day. On a renovation, or in a small shop, we agree the window so the rest of the day can be planned around it.
