Switchboard Upgrades in Skye from Impulse Electrical Contractors, based nearby in Dromana and servicing the wider Mornington Peninsula. Around the newer housing estates, local reserves and the streets bordering Frankston, new estate homes, established family houses, original older properties and infill builds need electrical work that is safe, tidy and suited to local conditions.
Call 0418 383 232Skye switchboards come in two ages. Longer-standing homes often still have the original board, with no safety switches and no spare way. A newer estate house can look finished and still be full, because the original build left no room for another circuit, an air conditioner or a charger. Impulse Electrical Contractors upgrades both, from our Dromana base, in this family suburb just north of Frankston.
If your lights flicker, breakers trip or the board still has ceramic fuses, it is time to upgrade before adding more electrical load. We replace old fuse boxes with modern circuit breakers, safety switches and labelled circuits, then test the installation and provide a Certificate of Electrical Safety. This is especially important before installing EV chargers, air conditioning, induction cooking, workshop outlets or major renovations. In Skye, older homes and renovated properties often reach the limit of the original board quickly, so we check capacity, earthing and meter panel condition before recommending the right upgrade. Impulse Electrical is fully licensed — A Grade A53308 and REC 25266 — with $25M public liability and a Certificate of Electrical Safety supplied on every job.
We open the board, the meter panel and the earthing before naming the work. An original house is not assumed to match an estate build. You leave with labelled breakers, tested safety switches and a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES). Call 0418 383 232.
On a longer-standing home the job is usually the whole enclosure. The old board comes out, safety switches go on power and lighting, and the new board has room for the circuits the house now needs. On a newer estate we check spare ways before saying another circuit will fit. The suburb page already says those homes were often built without the circuits families add later. We do not add another breaker to a board that has no spare way.
The Skye page says safety upgrades are the common job on the longer-standing homes, and that newer estates need switchboards upgraded for loads the original build left out. That is the older house still on fuses, and the estate enclosure with every way used by the oven, the lights and one power circuit. A charger or a split system does not fit in the gap that is not there. Both need the enclosure opened.

Many do. The suburb page says safety upgrades are the most common job on the longer-standing homes: replacing ageing boards and adding safety switches where they are missing. We confirm what is on the wall rather than assuming every original house has already been done.
Yes. It can have no spare way left once the builder's circuits are in. We check spare ways and the supply before saying another circuit, a split system or a charger will fit.
Power is off while the old board is disconnected and the new one is terminated and tested, usually for part of one day. We agree the window so a family home can plan around it.
No. The new board is labelled for the circuits that are actually there, including any garage or air conditioning circuit, and it is tested before we leave. You also get a COES.
